Kilrush Bird Watching

PROJECT IN IDEATION: Project is in early stages of development

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project seeks to develop a number of bird watching hides at Skagh Point mudflats at the Shannon Estuary aimed at resident and visiting nature enthusiasts alike.

The project is envisaged to be an addition to the West Clare Greenway project.

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION & OBJECTIVES

The mudflats at Skagh Point host a diversity of birds and other wildlife including otters, many of which are endangered and of national importance.

In addition to being a special attraction for visitors and an opportunity to take advantage of the growing nature tourism market, the hides would also be a great opportunity for local nature enthusiasts (e.g. the West Clare Wildlife Club) for outings and nature education in general.

The hides could also be used to monitor wildlife in the area and so contribute to the long-term protection of the resident and visiting species.
