Kilrush Cycle Routes

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project planned and developed cycle routes and enabled the installation of the necessary infrastructure.

The three routes were developed to cater for a variety of interests and capabilities of their users, and to allow the cyclist to experience the beautiful environs of Kilrush , its coastal roads as well as its nature trail through Kilrush Woods.

Route 1 - Kilrush Town Loop (7km, Green Trail)

This route focuses on cycling throughout the town of Kilrush, the local coastal paths and also enters Kilrush Woods traveling along the road leased by Clare County Council.

Route 2 – Estuary Loop (13km, Blue Trail)

This route sees cyclists enjoying a medium-range distance, which takes them across a broad range of environs, from Kilrush town, local villages, along with coastal shores and also passing through Kilrush woods from the Burrane Road and along 1.8km of woodland.

Route 3 – Heritage Cycle (16km, Brown Trail)

This route includes an enjoyable and winding cycle but also takes in the rich history of West Clare - Kilrush Town itself and the wider Kilrush region.

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION & OBJECTIVES

The diverse range of scenery, coupled with a growing culture of cycling in the town, will play a significant role in supporting and improving the health and well-being of all who participate in this initiative.

In addition it is envisaged that these routes will become a major tourist attraction for the town and area.
