Kilrush Youth Centre

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project seeks to develop a save space for young people to meet and spend their free time. This could include an indoor or sheltered outdoor facilities to sit, chat and play games as well as sport and activity options, e.g., table tennis, basketball.

This project could be jointly developed with the Kilrush Skate Park and Kilrush Youth Council projects.

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION & OBJECTIVES

Facilities for young people have been notoriously missing not only from Kilrush but all of the west Clare area. This lack of space and opportunity to engage with each other has a negative impact on mental health. This can lead to a disconnect with the community and the local area and in the worst case can lead to drug use and antisocial behaviour.

A save place that offers an opportunity for social interaction and options for activities would be a vital first step in creating a sense of place and belonging for the young people of the area.
